FOB Turbilatex® Combo is an automated, non-invasive latex turbidimetric assay manufactured by CerTest Biotec for the quantitative detection of human hemoglobin (faecal occult blood) in stool samples. It is widely used in bowel cancer screening programs for the early diagnosis of colonic neoplasms and polyps.
System Compatibility
The assay is designed as an “open system,” meaning it is compatible with most automated clinical chemistry analyzers, including:
- Roche: Cobas c311, c501, c111, and c702.
- Mindray: BS-200, BS-380, and BS-480.
- Others: Snibe Bioassays, Thermo Fisher Indiko, and Erba XL series.
Clinical Utility
- Lower GI Focus: It specifically detects intact human hemoglobin, making it highly specific for bleeding in the lower intestine.
- Complementary Testing: It can be used alongside Transferrin Turbilatex® in the same collection vial to improve detection rates for both upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Ease of Use: Automated quantification removes the need for manual interpretation, reducing human error in busy lab settings.
