An ablation catheter is a thin, flexible tube used in a minimally invasive procedure (catheter ablation) to treat abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) by destroying tiny areas of heart tissue causing the electrical problem, restoring a normal heartbeat, often using heat (radiofrequency), cold (cryoablation), or pulsed electric fields. The catheter maps the heart’s electrical signals to pinpoint the source, then delivers energy to create scars that block faulty signals, offering a drug-free alternative for conditions like atrial fibrillation (AFib).
