Alcon Centurion® Vision System

The Alcon Centurion® Vision System is an advanced ophthalmic surgical device used for cataract extraction procedures, specifically phacoemulsification, irrigation/aspiration, and intraocular lens injection.

Clinical Indications for Use

The system is FDA-cleared and clinically indicated for the following surgical actions:

  • Cataract Removal: Emulsification, separation, irrigation, and aspiration of cataracts ranging from soft cortical to dense brunescent types.
  • Cortical Material Removal: Aspiration of residual cortical material and lens epithelial cells after the primary cataract is removed.
  • Anterior Vitrectomy: Vitreous aspiration and cutting in the event of vitreous loss or during specific anterior segment complications.
  • Coagulation: Bipolar coagulation for controlled hemostasis during surgery.
  • IOL Injection: Automated delivery of qualified intraocular lenses (such as AcrySof® models) using the AutoSert® IOL Injector Handpiece.

Specialized Clinical Applications

  • High Myopia Cases: Recent 2025 data indicates its use in patients with high axial lengths (>26mm) to manage macular blood perfusion risks by maintaining stable, lower intraocular pressure (IOP).
  • Compromised Corneas: It is applied in patients with low preoperative endothelial cell density (ECD) to minimize corneal damage (edema and cell loss) by operating at more physiological IOP levels (e.g., 30 mmHg).
  • Challenging Nuclei: Combined with the OZil® Torsional handpiece and INTREPID® Balanced Tip, it is used for efficient removal of hard, dense nuclei while reducing cumulative dissipated energy (CDE).
